Legacy Track of the Week: Logic ft Lucy Rose - Anziety

“I’ma get up in your mind right now, make you feel like dying right now, I’ma make you pray to God, to the good old Lord for a sign right now” There’s perhaps never been a larger outlier in Hip Hop than the one from Gaithersburg, Maryland, named Sir Robert Bryson Hall II better known as Logic, who’s also perhaps one of the most talented MC’s to ever touch a microphone… no hyperbole… this oddity who stans for Seinfeld, Star Wars, and anything Quentin Tarantino is an absolute beast of an MC who can rap circles around pretty much anybody, lending further credence to the idea that the best Hip Hop is often found where you least expect it. Nonetheless the one most misunderstood is also likely to be the one that’s most relatable, and now upon the release of his third studio album Logic has a legion of fans who hang on every word and support with their wallet, making this enigma officially one of the most successful artists of the time period - much to the chagrin of all the artists who supposedly have bigger names (Wale sold 22K and Logic is about to exceed 240K+- trust and believe there’s a lot artists uncomfortable with that). All the same they can hate all they want but the numbers don’t lie… Logic is the truth and his new album Everybody is the gospel, highlighted by records like this that define the human spirit better than pretty much 90% of the genre.

Logic ft Alessia Cara & Khalid - 1-800-273-8255

“I've been on the low, I been taking my time, I feel like I'm out of my mind, it feel like my life ain't mine, who can relate?” A suicide prevention record that’s simple and straight to the point as much as it’s smooth and good for the soul - Logic’s vulnerability is without a doubt one of his greatest assets. The title of this record is the actual number for the National Suicide Prevention Hotline with whom the song was released in partnership with.

Organized Noize ft Jimmy Brown & Sleepy Brown - Chemtrails

“She is always floating around, she falls from the sky straight to the ground, you better run for cover right now, cause chem keeps on falling, keeps falling” For that don’t know Organized Noize is a Atlanta production team comprised of members Rico Wade, Ray Murray, & Sleepy Brown, who are most notable for producing a great percentage of OutKast and Dungeon Family’s catalogue, along with crossover hits for TLC, En Vogue, and Ludacris. After more than two decades into the game here they are with their own debut project as a self titled EP, and after all this time the music truly sounds better than ever.

Organized Noize ft Sleepy Brown - Awesome Lovin’

“You got that awesome lovin, girl, I'm for real” Sleepy Brown is officially flexin in 2017… press play and enjoy the vibe

Cee-Lo Green - Redbone Remix

“Then she cuts me off with a kiss, love's got nothing to do with this, just the heat of the moment, reminds you of something I should miss” All kinds of Goodie Mob Dungeon Family on the site this week, and here’s Cee-Lo Green with his own rendition of the Childish Gambino classic… and yea I can’t believe it but Childish Gambino really does have classics now… hardly one of my favorites but respect is due.

No Malice - Fake News

“Ya’ll should of been there when I told em to keep ya lil deal money, look upon they face was like, ‘Is he for real?,’ real as any dem scriptures you can quote, what made it real fact I had said it when I was broke, I'm Rakim had to tell them, I ain't a joke, what it profit a man to gain the world yet lose his soul” I’m not sure why I’m surprised but No Malice formerly known as Malice absolutely still has heat to his name 🔥🔥🔥smh he flamed this record and after this I can’t wait for the rumored Let The Dead Bury The Dead album.

Logic ft Neil deGrasse Tyson (& J Cole) - AfricAryan

"Tell white people I’m black, feel the need to retreat, like I should be ashamed of my granddaddy Malik, but my beautiful black brothers and sisters, want to act like I’m adopted, go back in time to when my ***** daddy, impregnated my cracker momma and stopped it” quality of the record aside, it’s concepts like this where legends are born, as the collaboration between Logic and famed scientist Neil deGrasse Tyson throughout the album is what makes this listening experience far more meaningful than most. Keeping in mind that Logic’s main speciality at this point is his own sub-genre of Hip Hop science fiction, this connection ultimately bridges the gap between so many different audiences and demographics, whereas people from multiple different backgrounds can come together and appreciate this art form in ways that have never been done before. It’s important to note that similar to his favorite rapper J Cole, as Logic transcends the genre he doesn’t compromise any of it’s best qualities, and inevitably he has the skills, production, and concepts to carry it new heights. On this outro he summarizes the album’s theme effectively and also hints that his next project will be his last, yet not before he gets a surprise (uncredited) verse from Cole that puts his legacy and impact all in perspective.

Logic - Take It Back

“Take it back, take it way back, take it way, way back to the first black man, long ago before the white man, could paint the black man with a gun in his hand” the production from 6ix and Bobby Campbell is crazy and Logic absolutely snaps on this… and never mind the idea that the spoken word is a poor substitute for the raps themselves… Logic is talking that talk on this record and his story needs to be heard….only right to let em cook….

Organized Noize ft 2 Chainz & Joi - Kush

“For my therapy, I roll some celery, go on a shopping spree, all about monopoly, she looks so good on top of me, helicopter on my property, propellers properly, I got on the wire that got everybody watching me” 2 Chainz continues his streak of good features…

Organized Noize ft Big Boi, Cee-Lo Green, Sleepy Brown & Big Rube - We The Ones

“Elevated, thinkin higher learnin, and always talkin bout this cookie that I'm burnin, my sermon is for the children and for the mamas, and for the daddy's that ain't earnin, I see the answers burnin” Big Boi definitely looks prime to drop something by late Summer…

Logic ft Killer Mike - Confess

“So, if you real, if you're out there for real, please explain to me why, why do we suffer? why do we die?” More crazy production from 6ix and Logic himself (major points for producing your own records) and Logic holds it down on the mic per usual, yet the highlight of this track is the sermon from Killer Mike, that for spoken word has an unprecedented amount of replay value that could definitely fuck up your rewind button.

Logic ft Black Thought, Chuck D, Big Lenbo & No I.D. - America

“In the shadow of a nation that it once was, all this false information I'ma unplug, young blood, it is not love, up at TrumpThugs, dot gov, the man in the high castle in a hot tub, we locked in a pine casket, it's botched up”  Black Thought, Chuck D, and NO I.D. rapping on the same song… and he takes shots at Kanye? smh doesn’t get more Hip Hop than that…

Logic - Mos Definitely

“I don't know what I’ma do, I don't know where I’ma live, cause it feel like I ain't got nothing to give, just wanna follow my dreams, just wanna follow my heart, but the world wanna tear me apart right from start” Produced by DJ Khalil & C-Sick this instrumental is amazing and Logic murders this… nothing else to do but press play

Big Lenbo ft Logic - Ice Cold

“Ending this line with the same rhyme, me and B-I-G L-N-B-O, we got the same mind, same slang, Wu Tang Killer Bee, fuck with me, all the way from the middle America to the Philippines” Big Lenbo is a Maryland MC who’s a frequent collaborator of Logic, featured on his records and profiled in his music videos, and here they are with the scenario reversed for Lenbo’s first release off his upcoming project titled Strange Days.

Russ - I’m Here

“Five-star suites, Trojan wrappers on the floor, that's the aesthetic when you gettin half a mil on tour, not bad for six weeks, plus I should receive my plaque soon, shittin on the game, I'll probably hang it in my bathroom” Russ is an up and coming artist from Georgia by way of New Jersey, who’s been highlighted on the site before and promotes himself to write, produce, engineer, and perform every single aspect of his music <<< very respectable >>> and here he is with his first studio album There’s Really A Wolf, which truthfully was 8 records too long but it’s a decent project all the same. Off the first couple spins this record is one of the standouts.

Russ - Act Now

“I'm tryna go on my phone less and less these days, and I don't talk to women less it's sex these days, I'm on my second presidential Rolex these days, I could chill but I would rather flex these days” A straightforward braggadocious record that’s another one of the standouts off There’s Really A Wolf

Russ - Scared

“Let's put the world on pause and get drunk off these city lights, I'm all about us tonight” On this one the multi-talented Russ sounds like Drake from the Houstatlantavegas days…

Maroon 5 ft Future & Gucci Mane - Cold Remix

“How my best friend turn into my enemy? I really love you girl but I don't need the energy, you broke my heart, girl and I can't find the remedy, now me and you can't even be in the same vicinity” A strong remix and truth be told all the younger mumble rappers make Gucci Mane sound good…

Jeremih - Cinco De Mayo

“Sandra, Lisa freaky in my cabana, in Costa Rica, dirty dancin Diana” Produced by Bongo By The Way this is one of the highlights off Jeremih’s new Cinco De Mihyo EP

Jeremih - Mi Amor

“Hola Mi Amor, all I need's some more, of you, never been so sure” not sure why we needed this EP but these records are worth a spin or two regardless.

Meek Mill - Left Hollywood

“Caught my first case, it was me versus the state, I just wanted some steak and some food on my plate, came up from shit I'm like ‘how can you hate’, I'm just tryna be great” Meek Mill just dropped a forgettable EP last week but when he calms down and is introspective it’s usually worth a listen.

Tyga - Eyes Closed

“Yeah, I know how to count it, I can count with my eyes closed, gotta see you bounce it, so bounce with the lights on” Tyga is always hit or miss but let’s never forget the first Fan of a Fan mixtape… either way this record compliments his sound as well.

Big Sean - Jump Out The Window

“I think I’m ready to jump out the window…” Video for the best record off I Decided

Meek Mill ft Tory Lanez - Litty

"Woo! I'm on my way to an island, and I'm popping shit at the pilot (fly shit only), ***** be broke and be starving, but still talking shit like they violent”
Song is tough but the video is 💪💪💪💪🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
