Legacy Track of the Week: Nicki Minaj - Ganja Burns
“Everytime I get high, I just think about you…” Nicki Minaj has just released her fourth studio album entitled Queen, and while some might question whether she deserves that title I think the description fits her, as all things considered she has become an iconic figure and easily the most renowned female emcee of the time period - all in due respect of course to other Queens like Rapsody, Remy Ma, and Cardi B… Truthfully I should hold off on that last one for longevity purposes but apparently Cardi will soon be performing at the actual Super Bowl… news released only weeks after she was in fisticuffs with Nicki Minaj herself at some bougie fashion show… so honestly when you look at the big picture who could really care? Regardless what can’t be disputed is that all those aforementioned artists have put out quality music in the last few years, and even with public opinion starting to sway against her, Nicki has continued that tradition with one of the best albums of her career. This intro for example is 🔥🔥🔥 More 🔥🔥🔥 produced by Atlanta’s own J.Reid aka Chevi Music, and even with some cringeworthy lyrics this is smooth enough and melodic enough to stay in your head for days, and that’s always been the formula for Nicki Minaj success.
Nicki Minaj ft Lil Wayne - Rich Sex
“If you know your pussy worth a Benz truck (rich sex), don't let homie fuck unless his bands up (rich sex), Go to DR get that fat transfer (rich sex), it ain't such a thing as broke and handsome (rich sex)” 😂😂😂 Produced again by J.Reid along with Aubry ‘Big Juice’ Delaine this is both fire and comedy at the same time, as it’s essentially a more graphic No Scrubs record for all the bad bitches with no talents or skills worth mentioning. Then again they not talking about me !!!! 😳😳😳 so I’ll go ahead and let them have their side chick anthem. Wayne does his numbers on this as well.
Nicki Minaj ft Ariana Grande - Bed
“Got a bed, with your name on it, with your name on it, got a kiss, with your name on it, with your name on it” Truth be told I’ve enjoyed these Nicki Minaj / Ariana Grande collaborations over the years, although the moment they’re not on the same label anymore you know we’ll find out they hate each other 😂 Almost like a golden rule with ‘divas’ that they could never actually be friends… but they definitely can join forces and make good music together as demonstrated right here.
Nicki Minaj - Nip Tuck
“I'ma have to switch, switch up on you, snip, snip, hit that nip tuck on you, ring, ring, never pick up on you (brr), I'ma have to switch, switch up on you” Consistent throughout her career Nicki Minaj has more cringeworthy bars than fuck-up-your-rewind-button verses, but her production has always been A1 and that’s the case here (thanks to producers Kane Beatz & June Nawakii), who help provide the framework to one of Queen’s greatest moments.
Nicki Minaj - Come See About Me
“Come, come see about me…” Produced by Cirkut & Chris Braid this is the smoothed out melodic Nicki Minaj that I most enjoy, that along with Ganja Burns showcases her versatility beyond forced metaphors and punchlines, and for that reason, this is arguably the most memorable record on the tape.
Nef the Pharaoh ft Cuban Doll & ALLBLACK - 86
“86, 86 out that bitch, I got kicked out that bitch, but I bet I'm still lit, they try to ban me from the club I be finnessin in, I had to switch the outfit up to get the weapon in” Vallejo, California artist Nef the Pharaoh has just released his sophomore studio album The Big Chang Theory, and produced by DTB this one is playlist worthy.
Nef the Pharaoh - Knock Down a Fan
“Yeah I know you slap my shit that’s all you ever say, If you a fan don’t be a nerd just go about your day” What’s funny about Nef the Pharaoh is despite what you’d think he’s not a mumble rapper and actually has a lot of concepts in his records, always staying directly on topic on his verses even if it revolves around getting kicked out of the club or in this case… assaulting and humiliating his fans??? Lmao he might be feeling himself a lil too much on this record because I’m not sure he really has fans… yet in terms of the internet I’m sure his following is growing and credit is due for actually making real songs no matter how juvenile the subject matter might be.
Nef the Pharaoh ft Jay Brown & Lesia Brown - That Was God
“And none of my ****** got killed last night, ***** that was God, my ***** that was God, I might it home after a six hour flight, ***** that was God, my ***** that was God, I just had a baby and it changed my life,***** that was God, my ***** that was God…” A solid outro for an album that was way better than I expected it would be… Nef the Pharaoh might actually be a name to follow in the years to come.
Cardi B ft Kehlani - Ring
“You don't hit my line no more, oh, oh, you don't make it ring, ring, ring, ring” Visual treatment for one of the many successful singles to come off Cardi B’s debut album Invasion of Privacy.
Drake - In My Feelings
“Kiki, do you love me? Are you riding? Say you'll never ever leave from beside me, cause I want ya, and I need ya, and I'm down for you always” Visual treatment for what we’ll call the social media song of the summer. [Not hating… but the Shiggy dance is neither funny or creative but I’ll let y’all cook regardless]
