November 20-27

The Weeknd ft Daft Punk - I Feel It Coming

“Tell me what you really like… baby I can take my time…” Although this was actually in the running for last week’s song of the week, this one is so tough we had to bring it back a second time. This one definitely sounds like a Michael Jackson album cut and I can’t think of a better compliment to give someone, where despite his inability to ever truly give this record the appropriate performance on stage, The Weeknd definitely annihilated this instrumental on wax - making it to date one of the best in his catalogue and certainly deserving as a legitimate ‘song of the week.’

Smoke DZA & Pete Rock ft Rick Ross - Black Superhero Car

“Take Eric Gardner killer, give me Sean Price back” Smoke Dza & Pete Rock have a collaboration project coming out and it doesn’t get any tougher than that. This one is nice but it’s likely they’ll be a lot more to like once Don’t Smoke Rock is released...

Ashanti ft Ja Rule - Helpless

“No stress, my love for you is never in doubt, we’ll get a little place in Queens and we’ll figure it out” Murda Inc is reunited on this Hamilton remake… and it’s actually kinda tough I’m not mad at it…

The Weeknd - Rockin’

“Why would you wanna take away from this moment… we can own it” This one capitalizes on the effect of less being more with an infectious melody that’s hard not to enjoy. Cool to dance to, ride out to, or any other occasion.

The Weeknd - Reminder

“Said I'm just tryna swim in something wetter than the ocean, faded off a double cup, I'm mixing up the potion, all I wanna do is make that money and make dope shit, it just seem like ***** tryna sound like all my old shit” Your typical reminder type of record… decent but not exactly Jay Z Blueprint 3 level…

The Weeknd - Secrets

“I hear the secrets that you keep, when you're talkin' in your sleep” Written by almost a dozen people, apparently this one was originally a country record that turned into a new-wave/soul style record, and in the end it’s one of the best records on Weeknd’s new album. The song heavily samples The Romantic’s “Talking In Your Sleep” and Tears for Fears “Pale Shelter”

The Weeknd - Six Feet Under

“Six feet under she gon' get that fucking paper” Metro Boomin & Future influenced this one is 🔥🔥🔥 no lie, a trap record that’s actually good.

The Weeknd - Love To Lay

“'Cause she loves to lay, (no) I learned the hard way” press play and catch the groove 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
