Legacy Track of the Week: Kendrick Lamar, SZA - All The Stars

“Tell me what you gon' do to me, confrontation ain't nothin new to me, you can bring a bullet, bring a sword, bring a morgue, but you can't bring the truth to me” The first 🔥🔥🔥 of 2018 is a TDE release that’s to be showcased in the upcoming Black Panther film (which will be a blockbuster and a major look that I’ll speak more about at a later point in time - though I can’t help but immediately consider certain nuances and themes that I’ve already touched on right here) yet in terms of strictly the music… this is truly nothing but 🔥🔥🔥 although I personally would have taken one more Kendrick verse for good measure.

Cozz- Questions

“Pain builds maturity, don't you be worried G, I keep a even mind but gotta know the reason why, these ***** ain't really sure of me, I ain't certain G, they doubt me currently even with Cole referring me, well shit ****** be hating it just occurred to me” Cozz is currently set to release his 3rd Dreamville project to be called Effected, and hopefully this is just a promo record yet if not then it will stand as a decent album cut all the same.

Kali Uchis ft Tyler, The Creator & Bootsy Collins - After The Storm

“The sun'll come out, nothing good ever comes easy…” Produced by BADBADNOTGOD this one is a groove and the visuals are 🔥🔥

Bruno Mars ft Cardi B - Finesse (Remix)

“We out here drippin' in finesse…it don’t make no sense… out here drippin in finesse… you know it, you know it...”

The video is inspired by In Living Color yet the music could be the best of NewEdition/BellBivDevoe/BobbyBrownSolo/RalphTresvantSolo/etc./etc./etc. and that’s about the best compliment I could give to another legend in the making in Bruno Mars. Meanwhile, I’m divided on the Cardi B feature as the record was more than good enough without her and truth be told I didn’t need it - yet at the same time the visuals were cool and I can understand why they’d capitalize on the moment. She does lose points however for not being able to add to the choreography (ain’t she a dancer or ???) and if she doesn’t sustain then years from now we’ll look back at this video and wonder why the feature was even necessary. Even still the 24K Magic album is some of the best music to be released in the 21st century, and I’m just glad it’s still in rotation following its 2016 release.

Justin Timberlake - Filthy

“Haters gonna say it's fake…” and I’m just saying the quality of these singles have been lukewarm and I’m not sure about the direction of this Man of the Woods album… mind you I’ve been a Timberlake fan for years, but if there’s not any real soul in the music than you can keep it.

Jay Z - Family Feud

“Nobody wins when the family feuds” A very cinematic video off the very impressive (although somewhat overpraised) 4:44 album - that truthfully is good music but is nothing close to groundbreaking.
