Legacy Track of the Week: Buddy ft Snoop Dogg - The Blue

“I wasn't looking for a lover, but I found you (ooh), I didn't wanna feel the way I do (the way I do), but I still do (ooh), baby youuuu, came out of the blue…” Mannnn 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 this right here is nothing but flames 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 produced by Mike N Keys, Brody Brown & Roofeeo this was made for hot summer days with drinks on ice, BBQ smoke, and good company all around you, Buddy captures a vintage sound on this record that can be played a hundred years from now and still have it’s same effect. This is timeless music in every way.

Buddy - Speechless

“(Oooh) That cat got my tongue, baby here I come, gimme some, when you fuck me good, that shit shut me up” More 🔥🔥🔥 from Buddy one of the rising stars from the West Coast who released two EP’s last year, and he’s followed up that success with the release of his debut album Harlan & Alondra that from start to finish is easily one of the best albums of the year hands down. The whole album is a vibe and this particular instrumental is again provided by all the aforementioned producers listed above, which perhaps is suggestive of some kind of monumental studio session that was nothing but magic.

Buddy - Shine

“Driving through the fog with my high beams putting on my Visine, let me tell you just what I seen, angels falling from the sky I just hope that they can take me back to where the pearly gates be, and I been counting down the days because I know we gotta die soon, that just means I get to fly soon, and I know I'm not the only one out here that's not afraid, alright alrighty now I'm finally on my way, I know I can't fail if God testing my faith, and if I don't hurry I might be too late, even with all of this darkness in my grave… I still can't help but shine” The outro to the album is what Buddy himself describes as street gospel and I couldn’t describe it better myself 💎💎💎 all kinds of jewels on this album where Buddy’s music doesn’t only sound incredible but it also has a lot more meaning than most, making the Compton emcee one of the more significant (and in some ways unassuming) new artists to hit the scene in years.

Buddy ft Ty Dolla $ign - Hey Up There

“Hey up there I'm on my way up, tell the radio to play us, blame it on the place I grew up, hit that land mine then I blew up” Produced by Hazebenga this is one of the singles off the album and it’s most definitely a vibe, though as far as I can tell it’s really Buddy that seemingly provides the melody as opposed to Ty Dolla in this case, and for my money I’d bet there’s a lot more where that came from.

Buddy - Trouble On Central

“Just so good at being in trouble…” Another single that got the video treatment and perfectly complements the album overall, Buddy is officially the best new artist on the scene right now.

Buddy - Young

“Can't worry bout what another ***** think, now that's liberation and baby I want it” An ode to the incredible record off Aquemini that all these 90’s babies need to quickly get familiar with, this particular reference by itself says a lot about Buddy and the cloth that he’s cut from. Meanwhile, this is once again produced by Mike N Keys, Brody Brown, & Roofeeo which tells me that those studio sessions must have been something outrageous.

Buddy ft Guapdad 4000 - Shameless

“Shameless, shameless (ayy), thought I told you haters, I don't want to be famous, I'm trying to get rich mothafucka I'm shameless, shameless” Produced by Mike N Keys & Jake One this is another album cut that is better than 85% of the music released this year <<< Drake, Nas, Kanye, Pusha T included.

Buddy - Real Life S**t

"Everyday a little more pressure, I'm gonna do some real shit, it's more than the music, I be going through some real life shit” The intro off the albums sets the tone and at 12 records strong Harlan & Alondra is easily one of the best releases of 2018.

The Internet - Mood

“Baby, next time I'll bring you flowers, roses, exotic daisies, next time I'll take you out, girl don't you keep me waiting” The Internet has followed up their 2016 critically acclaimed debut album Ego Death with their sophomore release entitled Hive Mind, and overall they continue to deliver their signature sound that is sure to satisfy their fans and critics alike, even if the album lacks any surefire heaters or infectious melodies that their certainly capable of. Nonetheless, on this particular record it’s the outro that actually stands out amongst the rest, and at track 7 it ultimately sets up the following records that are the most memorable on the tape.

The Internet - Next Time/Humble Pie

“Next time I'll just start by saying hi, ask her what her name is, if she has the time, start a conversation, no we don't have to talk for too long, I just wanna know..., that before she could leave, I walked over and said hello” Lead singer Syd is most definitely a phenomenal talent and one of the best poets and songwriters in her respective genre (which truth be told is more than likely a blend of many genres), and ultimately it’s both the lyrics and melody that makes this two part record complete.

The Internet - It Gets Better (With Time)

“Your inner strength is the reason you haven't said a word, but your countenance reveals the bad day that you've endured” Big Rube from Dungeon Family / Outkast fame! and somehow someway this is actually the SECOND time in the same week his influence is center stage, as the previously mentioned Buddy record that interpolates Liberation is what helped introduce his spoken word talent to the world, and now he’s here contributing to Hive Mind where for good measure his verse (and is unforgettable voice) is likely the most memorable on the tape.

Black Thought - Rest In Power

“If the wounds heal, the memories never fade, I wonder if you're in heaven's eleventh grade” Speaking of the legendary Roots crew Black Thought is back with this revolutionary record that’s set to the be the title track of the upcoming docu-series on Trayvon Martin, whose murder has still gone unanswered for at a time where the “Stand-Your-Ground” laws continue to seemingly only represent a certain few. Sure enough there’s been no justice served in that case or many others just like it, therefore this documentary and accompanying music is all the more substantial. Thank God we have Black Thought if nothing else.

Lenny Kravitz - 5 More Days ‘Til Summer

“Cause there are 5 more days til Summer takes me away…” Lenny Kravitz continues to release music in 2018 and from what I heard Raise Vibration is set to be his best work in years.

DRAM - Best Hugs

“Your girl gives the best hugs (I love the way she hold me tight)” DRAM just released a 3 track EP entitled That’s A Girl’s Name, and while it’s eclectic and creative it ultimately falls short of his undeniable potential.

Popcaan - Naked

“Me no want you wear no lingerie tonight for me girl, me want to see you naked” Jamaican Dancehall & Reggae singer Popcaan (who’s previously collaborated with Drake) just released his sophomore studio album Forever and it’s a good listen for those who love the genre.

Fat Joe ft Chris Brown & Dre - Attention

“Now you're coming to your senses, get it wet Six Flags Great Adventures” Joey 🔥🔥🔥 and for the record that Six Flags in Jersey is absolutely insane with no chill whatsoever, that park definitely kills your brain cells one ride at a time… and I respect it.

Denzel Curry ft Twelve’len & GoldLink - BLACK BALLOONS l 13LACK 13ALLOONZ

“Taboo and I are in the same boat, what's said from Pennywise I guess we all float, sky is the limit I could die in a minute, got my mind in a skillet, suicide not the mission” Florida native Denzel Curry just released his third studio album TA13OO and for all it’s gothic appeal I’d say he’s definitely found his niche.

6ixNine ft Nicki Minaj & Murda Beatz - FEFE

“Colorful hair don’t care” … TR3YWAY! 😂😂😂
