Legacy Track of the Week: Eminem - Fall

Either way this is definitely the sharpest Em’s sword has been in over 15 years and that’s not hate that’s just reality.
Eminem - The Ringer
“I should aim at everybody in the game, pick a name, I'm fed up with being humble, and rumor is I'm hungry, I'm sure you heard bumblings, I heard you wanna rumble like an empty stomach, I heard your mumblin' but it's jumbled in mumbo-jumbo, the era that I'm from will pummel you, that's what it's comin' to, what the fuck you're gonna do when you run into it? I'm gonna crumble you and I'll take a number two and dump on you if you ain't Joyner, if you ain't Kendrick or Cole or Sean then you're a goner” So apparently Marshal Mathers waited until his 10th album to finally get his powers back, and by my count that means over 5 albums and 15 years Eminem has maintained success despite not being himself, at least in the emcee skill category where from 1996-2004 he became a Rap God in its truest sense. Nonetheless all this time later he’s released his surprise album Kamikaze, and all nostalgia and hyperbole aside he actually really does sound like the real Slim Shady. Taking on all opponents through 12 tracks (and one bonus track that serves as the soundtrack to the upcoming Marvel film Venom), this is the best Eminem we’ve heard since the discman and Total Request Live.
Eminem ft Joyner Lucas - Lucky You
“Straight out the kitchen I told 'em the oven is mine, I do not fuck with you guys, if I don't kill you, just know you gon' suffer this time, I ain't no gangster but I got some bangers, some chains and some blades and a couple of knives, choppers and jammies, a partridge, a pear tree, my twelve days of Christmas was nothin' but lies” It’s always interesting to watch legends co-sign up and comers, and for his legendary status alone it’s worth noting that Eminem clearly sees a star in Joyner Lucas. He's definitely talented but upper echelon star??? I suppose only time will tell.
Eminem - Stepping Stone
“Everyone tried to go solo, really nobody blew, I was hoping they do so I ain't have to shoulder the crew, the plan was put everyone in position so that they knew, how to stand on they own and I don't wanna open up wounds, I just noticed that oomf was gone when we go in the booth, cause the truth is the moment that Proof died so did the group” Often times his introspective side has brought out the best of Eminem, and that remains the case here where he takes a trip down memory lane and reflects on the rise and fall of D12, his hometown group that once reached Platinum success yet is now all but disbanded. Personally I thought they were all talented yet aside from Proof, and perhaps the gimmicks of Bizarre, there was little to no potential for solo projects outside of the group, at least on a commercial level all things considered. Either way Devil’s Night will always be a classic and they all played a part in one of the most monumental runs in all of Hip Hop.

Bun B ft Killa Kyleon - Trill Over Everything
“It’s all trill, fuck how they feel, that’s how it is…” Bun B has just released his 5th solo studio album (not including countless other mixtapes and UGK classics) entitled Return of the Trill and it’s definitely one of the surprise albums of the year. This intro produced by BIG K.R.I.T. sets the tone perfectly and Killa Kyleon annihilates his featured verse… on this album southern Hip Hop is alive and well.
Bun B ft T.I. & Big K.R.I.T. - Recognize
“I'm the anomaly, honestly, you should honor me, but how can I act like I'm the shit like wasn't no one in front of me? I cannot acknowledge all the pimpin' Bun had done for me, okay listen fella never ever disrespect the predecessor” This time BIG K.R.I.T. has production and a featured verse, but the star on this record is TI who smokes his verse and sounds better than ever.
Bun B ft Slim Thug & Lil’ Keke - KnoWhatImSayin
“My paint is like, ‘Damn!’ Knowhatimsayin'? My rims is like, ‘Man!’ Knowhatimsayin'? My trunk is like, ‘Hold up!’ KnowhatImsayin'? KnowhatImsayin'? Texas and these boys ain't playin” The first single off Return of the Trill is the new Houston anthem until further notice! If you have an old-fashioned automobile and it’s candy drippin play this one loud!
Bun B ft Yo Gotti & 2 Chainz - Traphandz
“Trap hands hallelujah, I run this shit Rick The Ruler, I'm gettin' bitches, stackin' mula, trap hands hallelujah” BIG K.R.I.T. has production all over this album and as stated before he’s one of the most underrated producers (and artists period) in the game hands down.
Bun B ft Run The Jewels - Myself
“I got to make these moves, I got to pay my dues, I got to take care of mine and mine and mine and mine alone” Bun B & Killer Mike on the mic together over El-P production??? That would be enough said but add the fact that the verses are crazy introspective and this is one of the many many many great records on the album.
Bun B ft Pimp C - U A Bitch
“I been a real street ***** way longer than I remember, grindin’ on the block from January to December” Long Live Pimp C! UGK’s contributions to southern Hip Hop are timeless.
Bun B ft 8Ball & MJG - Grow Up
“Learn from it, take notes and earn with it, feed families and don't waste your turn with it” We need a new 8Ball & MJG album! Memphis legends and more royalty in Hip Hop!
Bun B ft Leon Bridges & Gary Clark Jr. - Gone Away
“All my friends have gone away, so long to them, but I have to stay, all my woes and all my lows, won't change my soul 'cause I have to go” BIG K.R.I.T. on production, Leon Bridges on the hook, and Gary Clark Jr. on the guitar, this is the perfect outro to a damn near flawless album that’s one of the great surprises of 2018.
Lloyd- Caramel
“Caramel (ooh), dripping in my bed, yeah you know what's going through my head, I'm thinking bout... getting with you tonight, (I'm thinking bout) wifing you up for life” Lloyd has just released his 5th studio album Tru, and this single right here is one of the best R&B records of the year bar none, R&B just like it should be - credit due to Lloyd for keeping it alive.
Lloyd- Excited
“There's no time to waste right now, give me all you have inside, if you let me I'll show you how, how to groove on this fantastic ride” Now this actually IS the best R&B record of the year to date, as it’s feel good vibes make you think of the perfect day at the amusement park similar to Mariah’s ‘Fantasy’ record in all it’s glory. Unfortunately, this music video doesn't really capture the magic, however, and for some reason the credits aren’t listed for this album anywhere on the Internet, yet in any event the production on this track is incredible and I'll be playing this through Thanksgiving.
Lloyd ft Rick Ross - Heavenly Body
“Took you out the ghetto, got you sleeping on the beach, love the hood but gotta keep you out these sucker reach” Ross blessed the album and its playlist worthy off the strength of his demeanor alone.
Lloyd - Porcelain
“And like porcelain, feels good (feels good, feels good) on my skin, cool to the touch like an ocean wind” 🔥🔥🔥 music much respect to the R&B legend from New Orleans.
Kanye West - XTCY
“You got sick thoughts? I got more of 'em, you got a sister-in-law you'd smash? I got four of 'em, damn, those is your sisters, you did somethin' unholy to them pictures, damn, you need to be locked up, nah, we need a bigger hot tub” This was supposedly a leftover track from the Ye album, and I’m somewhat confused because this sounds better than just about every track on the Ye album. Regardless this is MAGA Kanye at his best with his Kardashian raps and when it’s fire it’s fire and this time I’ll say it’s relatively decent.
Don Q & A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie ft 50 Cent & Murda Beatz - Yeah Yeah
“I know I ain't perfect, but look I'm workin', I could make a melody like, ‘Yeah, yeah’" Don Q has just released his latest project Don Season 2, and all I have to say is that this is the best A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie that we’ve ever heard. This is A Boogie on the hook??? Doesn’t even sound like him but it’s definitely a surefire heater and the perfect record for 50 to jump on.
Don Q - Sauce Dripping
“I got sauce dripping, they call it entertaining, we got raw chicken, you want it send a payment, I do all dishes, I send my bitch through training, br-brand new Porsche whipping, and my pistol stainless, a-and my pistol stainless, a-and my pistol stainless” Overall I haven’t heard enough from Don Q to consider him a legitimate contender, but this record leaves me hopeful that the music quality is slowly catching up to his reputation.
Don Q - Intervention
“These bitches vicious and these ****** look suspicious (they look suspicious), my finger itchin' (itchin'), I can feel the tension (tension), wait, let's say a prayer (prayer), I need intervention ('vention), she said I'm a player bitch so you know my intentions” Ok now I’m turning into a believer… this is more than solid.
Curren$y - 300 Thousand
“300 thousand it came with two umbrellas, three pieces underneath helicopter propellers, cops tend not pull us over unless they extra jealous, most the time pay me no mind know I'm a cool fella, know I stand for something push youngins to do better, don't ever ask for nothing get out and put in the effort, the school of hard knocks taught ya boy some valuable lessons” 💎💎💎 I could have posted the full verse this is Curren$y the hot spitter at his most fire, with all kinds of wisdom sprinkled on his latest project Fire in the Clouds.
Curren$y - Never Stop
“Cold champagne pop, gold chain full of rocks, rubber band money knots, pray it never stop, we stay on the money route, got the hardest Chevy's out, we was ready, they was not, pray it never stop” Drupey Beats handles all the production on Fire in the Clouds, and I’d only recommend the project to longtime fans of the New Orleans emcee.
Youngboy Never Broke Again - Run In Her
“I done died and came back and I still see the same thang, I done died and came back, came back I see not a damn thang changed” Say what you want about NBA Youngboy but the Baton Rouge artist is only 18 years old and seems to have his community behind him, which has generated a following that has seemingly grown overnight towards legitimate stardom. Although the skillset is marginal to his credit he seems to be working, as this 4Respect 4Freedom 4Loyalty EP is his second 4 track project in as many weeks.
MGK - RAP DEVIL
“We know you get nervous Rabbit, I see Momma's spaghetti all over your sweater, I wish you would lose yourself on the records that you made a decade ago, they were better” This was a diss track that Hip Hop didn’t need but we’re happy it’s arrived, and while I see no reason to expound on it further I do think this was a respectable effort… as Kelly definitely brought up some valid points.
