Legacy Track of the Week: Big K.R.I.T. - Learned From Texas

“I-I just wanna pull up (Pull up, pull up)/ Like UGK used to double cup the fluid (Po' it up)/ DJ Screw, chop suey/ Learnin' shit from Texas, swangin' that bubble eyed Lexus/ neon every exit, poppin' that trunk so reckless” Heavily influenced by the chopped and screwed era of Houston, Texas, the first single off his fourth studio album, K.R.I.T. Iz Here, brings that same energy.

Big K.R.I.T. - Higher (King Pt. 6)

“(Found God) Might not agree with my wants/ (My God) Can forgive but I don't/ (Whoa, God) Gave me wings but I ain't flown/ (Much higher) Than the paper planes that I've thrown (The power) That it takes to move a mountain/ (The power) That it takes to keep from drownin'/ (The power) To know why all these demons surroundin' (Much higher) More than any number I've counted/ I find God (Found God)” Produced by K.R.I.T. himself this was inexplicably left off the album when it was released months later (in fairness over 6 months later), but for what it’s worth this is one of my favorite K.R.I.T. songs from his catalog, as it plays like a better version than Kanye’s Sunday Services.

RetCH - Affection

“Ayy, tried to give you all my affection, yeah/ Hi-Tech, yeah it solve my depression/ Let my guard down, yeah, I let you get my best side, huh/ Let you take my heart up on a test drive, yeah” From Hackensack’s own, this is one of the only redeemable records from Richer Than the Opps.

Future - Ain’t Coming Back

“Sometimes I sit down, wrist on gold/ I done made it without sellin' my soul/ bad bitch layin' down in a robe/ ask me how I made a mil' and didn't fold” Future came out with his 7th release at the top of 2019, The Wizrd, and at this rate mumble rappers are averaging about one good track per album.
