Legacy Track of the Week: Mass Appeal ft Fashawn, Nas, Ezri - Apostles
“A king is often alone, even in a crowded home/ he silent, let it be known/ he trust nobody, not family or friends/ you'd be surprised on what he relies on/ consequences of men” Produced by Statik Selektah, this is one of many good tracks off Nas’ imprint Mass Appeals’ first collaborative tape Starting 5: Vol. 1. Although the label hasn’t seemed to have made much impact since its foundation in 2014, this project suggests that Nas’ vision may become clear in the near future. Also for the record, this verse right here is Nas in his greatest form.
Mass Appeal ft Cantrell, Ezri, 070 Phi - 6 Rings
“Six rings, feelin' like Jordan/ keep me a shooter, Rob Horry/ six rings all for my shawty/ six rings all for my shawty” A vibe 🔥🔥🔥
Mass Appeal ft Cantrell, Stro, 070 Phi, Liana Bank$ - When Morning Comes
“I run fast, tryna escape my problems but I never do/ end up running into something new and they been running too” There’s a lot of talent on the Mass Appeal roster.
Mass Appeal ft Black Milk, Stro, Cantrell, Keyon Harrold - SonShine
“Yo, my story is one they gotta respect/ familiar face in the jungle while living from check to check/ the paranoia, are they looking 'cause they hate or enjoy you? When Brooklyn in the house, ****** stare like a foyer” Produced by iLL Wayno this is one of the best records off the Starting 5 tape that the majority of hip-hop’s culture hasn’t heard.
Sean Price & Small Professor - Refrigerator P
“Never catch P on a girl song/ I smack shit out your "We Are the World" song/ get a hater scary/ my defense intense, Refrigerator Perry” Originally released on his posthumous Imperius Rex album, this was released on the 86 witness mixtape along with Philly producer Small Professor.
Sean Price & Small Professor ft Your Old Droog, Guilty Simpson & AG Da Coroner - John Gotti
“Half God body, other half Rob Zombie/ lift chrome, gets dissed on like I'm John Gotti/ investing in chrome, Sylvester Stallone/ first blood, the first slug rest in ya dome/ uh, the man stunt with the God step/ I'm old school like manhunt in the projects” RIP SEAN P
Wiz Khalifa, Curren$y - The Life
“Yeah, uh/ listening to Cameo, smoking on the patio/ Polo chinos, a Pro Club plotting out the next score” Back in 2009, frequent collaborators Wiz Khalifa & Curren$y released their first mixtape together, How Fly, and now almost ten years to date the two spitters have released 2009 in reference to the original tape. Sure enough, they smoked this Cardo and Sledgren production 🔥🔥🔥
Wiz Khalifa, Curren$y - Eastside
“Uh, I'm from the East Side section of your area/ I ain't bullshitting, corners I be hitting/ just the morning edition, champagne, orange juice mixing/ fell asleep in the studio, woke up on a mission” More 🔥🔥🔥
Ariana Grande - imagine
“Click, click, click and post/ drip-drip-dripped in gold/ quick, quick, quick, let's go/ kiss me and take off your clothes” Produced by Happy Perez & Andrew “Pop” Wansel, the opening track off Ariana Grande’s fifth studio album is a good sound for the most recognizable pop princess of the time period.
Ariana Grande - bad idea
“I got a bad idea/ how 'bout we take a little bit of time away? I got a bad idea/ forget about it, yeah, forget about him, yeah/ forget about me” Produced by Max Martin & ILYA this right here is a vibe and a nice tempo.
Ariana Grande - thank u, next
“Thank you, next (Thank you)/ I'm so fuckin' grateful for my ex” Produced by Social House & TBHits this is another nice tempo that finds Ariana reminiscing about all her former lovers and friends, and I’ll refrain from sharing my thoughts on the actual content of the record. All the same, the title track and the album itself have propelled the former Nickelodeon star into a whole other stratosphere of starpower and fame.
Khalid - Talk
