Legacy Track of the Week: 2 Chainz ft Marsha Ambrosius - Forgiven
“Got a phone call from Lil' Fate/ somebody shot his son, he didn't make it/ my head aching, hands started shaking/ foul beyond flagrant” 2 Chainz’ fifth studio album, Rap or Go to the League, was one of the best albums of 2019 and this intro produced by Dem Jointz was incredible.
2 Chainz - Money in the Way
“Above sea level (Yeah), I'm on G level (G)/ long as she naked (she), I don't see nothin' (alright)/ the money in the way, fuck what they got to say/ I throw it up, it's falling down, it's definitely in the way” Produced by Jabz and Buddah Bless this is one of the many heaters off Rap or Go to the League, 2 Chainz stepped it all the way up in 2019.
2 Chainz - NCAA
“NCAA, yeah, we the young and dangerous, yeah/ we be ballin' hard, yeah, I just want some paper, yeah” Staying in tune with the theme of the album, 2 Chainz just made the NCAA anthem on the eve of college athletes finally getting compensated for their talent and hard work.
2 Chainz ft Ariana Grande - Rule the World
“Top down on the Dawn like I'm used to it/ praying he make it home, I got used to it/ praying he make it home like he used to/ I realized we could rule the world” Following all the unnecessary drama created by Ariana Grande’s 7 Rings music video, the pop princess decided to appease her critics (and fans) and delivered one of the best features of the year. To her credit, she had another really good year.
2 Chainz ft Chance the Rapper & Kodak Black - I'm Not Crazy, Life Is
“I met my BM when I was 9/ I had a hunch back then, but I took my time” This is one of the best Chance the Rapper verses to date, and overall this is a great record to help close out a career-defining album.
Juice WRLD ft Brent Faiyaz - Demonz Interlude
“I can't ever do right, I can't lose this fight, I'm already low/ I think I need new beginnings/ I think the demons are winning” I’m just getting familiar with Brent Faiyaz but the Maryland native delivered on a great look from Juice Wrld.
Juice WRLD - Fast
“I been living fast, fast, fast, fast/ feeling really bad, bad, bad, bad/ time really moves fast, fast, fast, fast/ better hurry up and get in your bag, bag, bag, bag” RIP Juice WRLD 🙏 this was one of the best commercial hip-hop records of 2019, and to be honest it deserved more recognition. Produced by Louis Bell, watt, and Frank Dukes, this should’ve been a Top 40 smash.
Juice WRLD - Hear Me Calling
“Do you hear me calling? Do you hear me calling? Me no want no drama/ not a fighter, a lover” Produced by Purps this record is super catchy and Death Race for Love is a memorable body of work from a talent gone too soon.
Weezer - High As A Kite
“I think I'm going parasailing/ miles above, it’s so serene/ I'm letting go of all the troubles/ that I've seen, that I’ve seen” Back in 1994, Weezer released their 3x platinum-selling self-titled “Blue” album, and now twenty-five years later, still together they’ve released their “Teal” and “Black” self-titled albums to complete the trilogy, and this particular record is way better than I anticipated - this is the melancholy rock & roll that I’m here for.
Weezer - Just Being Honest
“So, here we go/ don't get mad at me, I'm just being honest” Not mad at this record either, this is Maroon 5 level and Weezer deserves that respect!
