In late 1909 the Jones family travels to Stockholm, Sweden, where Indiana meets Swedish author Selma Lagerlöf
Lagerlöf is the author of the children’s book The Wonderful Adventures of Nils, a story with fantasy and adventure that makes a profound impact on Indiana.
Later in his life Indiana would reference Stockholm as one of his favorite cities, and he uses the pseudonym Nils when undercover as a Swedish reporter many years later in Istanbul.
Today the story of Nils is so renowned throughout Sweden that the characters have even been depicted on the back of Swedish currency.
