Legacy Track of the Week: Wale ft J Cole - My Boy

“Have a ***** screaming ‘Lord, why me? Why me? Cole did me grimy, he took it too far, he treat them bullets like they Siamese’ back to back, I clap like that's a wrap but, no video shoots just hoodies and boots, puttin your troops in pine boxes, I blew a million on white tees and Calvin Klein boxers, this ***** silly” 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Cole’s been in his duffle all 2018 and this production right here from him is silly… This J Cole instrumental is ridiculous... so let’s be clear that he’s as underrated in the producer category as much as anywhere else. Meanwhile Wale has just released his latest ep Free Lunch and at 5 tracks it’s definitely a more inspired listen than Shine, and of course together with Cole they always come correct, where right next to Beautiful Bliss this is probably their best collaboration to date.

Wale - 3 Days, 3 Hours

“You a whole globe, you a whole earth, and I'm a troubled millionaire that fears you know your worth, absence makes the heart grow fonder so we ponder, on the things we gon' do when distance ain't a problem” Spoken word introspective Wale is one of the best versions of Wale, and this isn’t even that but it has that similar feel like it’s Def Poetry Jam at the Love Jones cafe, and honestly Wale does this just about better than everybody.

Berner - RICO

“This the RICO, they say that every single man's created equal, every single dollar that I touch is illegal, they comin' for my people, this is the RICO” Don’t look now but Berner has two of the best Hip Hop albums to be released this year. The Big Pescado in January and now RICO in September, the Bay Area marijuana entrepreneur has become a major player in Hip Hop thanks to not only his business acumen and relationships, but also his talent and genuine love for the genre that’s been evident in every project he’s released.

Berner ft Kevin Gates - Light Show

“All this jewelry on me, this jewelry on me, it's a light show, all these hoods up in the warehouse, it's a light show, when them guns sparks, and it's dark out, it's a light show, all these lights around the crib, yeah, that's just the way we live”The single from the album is all about the production from Cozmo, whose work is all over the album and has previously done records with Wiz Khalifa, Nipsey Hussle & The Game amongst others.

Berner - Singin’

“But there's etiquette, you gotta move a certain way, you can't show the whole world every time you make a play” Berner educates the youth on street code and the concept of snitching on yourself for clout on the internet, which is somewhat ironic because some would say Berner does exactly the same, but I’d argue the rather and that he’s instead a pioneer and a trailblazer in the marijuana industry.

Berner ft Curren$y, Green R. Fieldz, Casey Veggies - Ever Do It

“Candy paint range drizzle skittles on my latest, I got polish on my Daytons, I got lil mama waiting” Cozmo on the production and the hook, and meanwhile Curren$y comes through with a classic verse and steals the show.

Berner ft Bone Thugs N Harmony - Gon’ Do

“My struggle is alive and my hustle is the realest, walking through the jungle with the lions and gorillas, King on the throne, ain't nobody gotta feel us, fuck a King and a Kong, man, the Bones is the realest” Quietly the Bone Thugs have sounded real good over the last couple of years, particularly Bizzy Bone who sounds better than ever.

Berner ft Cam’ron & Jim Jones - Dope Boy

“I get to it, see I'm not the one to lollygag, bodybag, you gettin' money, word? take a polygraph” Berner even gets the Diplomats on the track, which again is no surprise considering he's also done a full collaborative EP with Cam already. I could only imagine how legendary these studio sessions must be.

Berner ft DJ Quik & Ty Dolla $ign - Choose Up

“Yeah I love California ain’t no way I could leave, all the women and the weed and this money for me” Berner even gets Ty Dolla and the legendary Quik on a record. And no gimmicks all of these records are quality music and this is another Bay Area classic.

Berner - Fuck Faces

“I got dime pieces, but they side pieces, I like the one's that come around for the right reasons, I don't like cheatin” Even without features Berner holds his own on these instrumentals better than most. If only these mumble rappers had as much Hip Hop in their souls as Berner.

Berner - Lovin It

“In London I'm a king and they don't even know I rap, they just know the little blue C's on the bags, Marijuana mafia, the Feds want me bad, I just threw another bundle in my bag, I'm lovin' it” Berner promotes his business well in his music and this production provided by Stinje is nothing but flames.

Berner ft Wiz Khalifa & Styles P - Miss Me

“I told Berner and Wiz, I’m a wiz with the berner, if it ain’t about hedge fund money it don’t concern us” Berner even gets Wiz Khalifa and Styles P on the track, although this should be expected as Berner was originally signed by Taylor Gang and he just released a collaborative album with Styles just last year.

Berner - Jordan Box

“I’m old school I keep cash in my Jordan box” A throwback era type of emcee is much needed for this generation. Someone tell Berner we appreciate his purpose in Hip Hop and the decriminalization of the Marijuana industry.

6LACK - Sorry

“Can find me somewhere writing when I’m wrong, girl I'm just tryna see if I belong, mistakes feel like a fracture in my bones” so the latest social media sensation is East Atlanta’s own 6LACK (pronounced BLACK), who definitely has some heat to his name although is very similar to the likes of Bryson Tiller, to put all the hype into a certain context. With that said this is one of the highlights off his sophomore studio album East Atlanta Love Letter.

6LACK ft J Cole - Pretty Little Fears

“Bet she from the west side, mmm, and she seen my best side, mmm, mmm” Cole! With production from T-Minus who was the only producer other than Cole to get a track on KOD, and this is a smooth record that after a few listens can stay in your head for days.

6LACK - Stan

“Say you'll always be my greatest fan, sing your favorite words just like a band, only if you'll love me like a stan, stan, stan, aw, man” Produced by DJDS (DJ Dodger Stadium) the outro is one of the smoothest records on the tape, although there’s almost too deliberate of a Dream influence in the hook, that of course goes unnoticed by the tastemakers despite the obvious familiarity and Atlanta connection. Regardless this was a perfect way to close the album, that’s good overall but certainly not as good as the media has made it out to be.

Mozzy ft Ty Dolla $ign & YG - Thugz Mansion

"Ohhh, ain't no place I'd rather be (rather be), get it all for the family (woah), sky-high iced out paradise (way, way up), in the skyyy” RIP Tupac Shakur … still one of the most important voices of our generation.

Tori Kelly ft Lecrae - Masterpiece

“That's why tonight I pray, don't take your love away, forever in your embrace, without you I'm like a storm with no end” Rising star Tori Kelly is back with her sophomore studio album Hiding Place, and this time she comes with a Gospel sound over her more familiar R&B/Pop influences. With that said aside from this first record the music just isn’t there.

G-Eazy ft Anthony Russo - Rewind

“Every single night she wants some more of me (ayy), I'ma have to curve with some authority (ayy), bringin' hella drama you annoying me, know what's good only if I invited you cordially” All jokes aside G-Eazy just might be a legitimate hit maker.

Kanye West & Lil Pump ft Adele Givens - I Love It

“I'm a sick ****, I like a quick ****, I like my **** sucked, I'll buy you a sick truck, I'll buy you some new ****, I'll get you that nip-tuck, how you start a family? The condom slipped up” I normally don’t censor these words but I feel compelled to for some reason. Honestly Kanye West can still spit when he wants to but the Pump collaboration is a troll move by definition.

TI ft Meek Mill - Jefe

“They say we talk about money too much, but maybe they ain't gettin' money enough, I say ‘Dímelo, papi’, he combo the truck, he gon’ make me a tab and I'm runnin' it up, gracias!” Set to be released on TI’s upcoming album DIME TRAP, Meek snaps on this and I'd like to hear this collaboration more often.

TI ft Yo Gotti - Wraith

"I just wanna ball in the wraith, with your broad in the way, and I wanna, I'ma take my shot" More 🔥🔥🔥 DIME TRAP released worldwide October 5th!

Swizz Beatz ft Lil Wayne - Pistol On My Side (P.O.M.S.)

“Pistol on my side, you don't wanna hear it harmonize, numbers don't lie, the Number One Stun- never mind” Always a great collaboration and this was the perfect setup for Wayne to finally release The Carter V just a few weeks later.
