Legacy Track of the Week: The Game - Hug The Block
“I can't believe this life took my pops/ we fightin' each other and we both look like pops/ nah, I take that back, I look like pops/ and when I see you, you look like opps” Nobody wins when the family feuds, yet this is undoubtedly the most memorable track off Born 2 Rap, where Game is at his best as he writes an open letter to his older brother Big Fase 100.
The Game - The Light
“300 Bars was just an intro/ that was me in DJ Skee basement relaxed off indo/ you ain't even seen me off the ’Tron yet/ you ain't heard me on a county jail phone yet/ I ain't even set the tone yet/ picture Wu-Tang mobbin' deep on a Nore-N-Capone set” The Game released his ninth studio album, Born 2 Rap, and this TEC BEATZ production is one of the highlights where he challenges Cole, Kendrick, Drake, (and Travis Scott smh) to step to the light.
The Game ft Mozzy, Osbe Chill, ToBi - Carmen Electra
“Fuck the slice, I want the pie/ why ask, "Why?", 'til we die/ watch your soul stand in line for a slice of the devil's pie/ Carmen Electra” Game and Mozzy flip D’Angelo’s “Devil Pie” over more TEC BEATZ production, and the sample works as I can’t hear the original song anymore without saying “Carmen Electra.”
The Game - Gucci Flip Flops
“If you listenin' to this now that mean Swizzy got it cleared for me/ 2018, what a fucked up year for me/ take it back to January, ***** lost his father/ only way I got through it was bumpin' Wayne's first Carter” Game over a soulful Swizz Beatz instrumental, a deviation from his more up-tempo style of production.
The Game - Born 2 Rap
“I sit alone in my room in the zone writin' classics/ who rap better than me?”🔥🔥🔥 this time around Game and TEC BEATZ (with additional production from DONTMINDIFIDUKE) flip the Geto Boys classic and honestly it works because it’s facts. No cap, aside from Kendrick there’s nobody in the West that can rap with Game.
The Game ft Nipsey Hussle - Welcome Home
“Gave my mind to these millions and my heart to the game/ probably die up in these streets but I survive through my name” RIP Nipsey Hussle 🙏 and it’s good to hear Game back rhyming over BongoByTheWay production, who lowkey has been serving Game up with classics since the Documentary 2 and 2.5 <<< the latter of what is still the best West Coast release since the end of the Death Row era.
The Game ft Marsha Ambrosius - I Didn’t Wanna Write This Song
“Los Angeles, the gift and a curse/ focused on your neighborhood but you shifted the earth/ you had the Staples Center packed like a church/ whole South Central put they hands on your hearse” As expected The Game dedicates a nice portion of his latest album to the loss of his friend Nipsey Hussle, and it’s also no surprise that the music in his honor is nothing less than classic.
The Game - Ask For Me
“Poured lean with Wayne, ain't sipped it in years/ after what happened to triple X, my vision is clear/ I be like Cyclops, see ****** from five blocks/ ask your man, my superpower these five Glocks” The Game with some X Men bars 🔥
The Game ft Anderson .Paak - Stainless
“Rollin' on the 105 (105)/ I don't drink when I drive (I don't think you know)/ but I gotta do it high (Know)/ blowin' smoke in the sky (Smoke in the sky)/ it's something you should try (Something you should try)/ swear to God, it's a vibe (Know)” All facts in those words sung by Anderson .Paak, and for the record, this is a collaboration I’d like to hear more from.
The Game ft Trey Songz - Blood Thicker Than Water
“Yeah, bloodstains drippin' from my eyes (My eyes)/ pain got me lookin' to the sky/ Lord, why? Oh why, oh why?” Game over STREETRUNNER production where he actually spits some real-life game to one of his son’s, rhyming “I can't do this shit for you, bro, you gotta win your own race/ stop walkin' around this mansion with the long face/ look at everything your daddy accomplished when you low on faith”🔥🔥🔥 no raps better than relatable family drama raps, and for some reason this one hit home.
The Game - Rewind II
“The bullet comes out of his head back in the Draco/ I moonwalk back to the car, gun on my waist/ take the ski mask off of my face” Over more DONTASKIFIDUKE production, Game steps to the plate to try to make a remake of the Nas classic, and honestly it’s neither a home run or a swing and a miss.
Fabolous ft Meek Mill - Talk To Me Nicely
“Keep a bad bitch talkin' to me nicely” Summertime vibes in the winter off Loso’s Summertime Shootout 3: Coldest Summer Ever.
Fabolous ft A Boogie Wit da Hoodie - Gone For the Summer

Fabolous ft Tory Lanez - Seasons Change
“That's how she bumped into her other dude/ and now her other dude see her with another dude/ and her other dude cool with her another dude/ I won't even talk about the other other dude (Other dude)/ this some She's Gotta Have It shit/ some Nola and her ***** Thanksgiving savage shit/ some Russell Westbrook triple-double average shit/ but for me to give a shit I gotta have the shit” That Thanksgiving scene is a classic, and surprisingly the Netflix adaptation did not disappoint at all.
Fabolous - Insecure
“Was playing Wu-Tang "Ice Cream" when she had me scoop her/ now it's too easy, ride or dies'll gladly Uber (Yo, I'm outside)” Produced by AraabMuzik, Dream and Jeremih’s vocals are on this track as well.
Fabolous ft Josh K - Frenemies
“Bitches'll dub you and bait you with the same line/ family can love you and hate you at the same time/ lovers and haters are like two of the same kind/ both of them feelings can make you do the same crime” That’s facts, although I personally wish Fabolous would release another Soul Tape or There Is No Competition before we get another Summertime Shootout.
Smoke Dza, Curren$y - Cinderella Story
“I wear my jewelry in the pool/ rolling fire put me in a better mood/ faded knocking Uncle Snoop, Gin and Juice/ stressing I need 40 greenhouses and a mule” DZA x Curren$y off their collaborative tape, Prestige Worldwide.
Smoke Dza, Curren$y - Patience
“Hold up now let’s be clear/ I keep it stoned and cool/ we pioneered this sound/ we got some kids through school”🔥🔥🔥 and that’s facts.
Smoke Dza, Curren$y - Frankie Lymon
“Tbt that’s old me/ she give me slack, she take me back/ she still my tenderoni” More feel-good music off Prestige Worldwide.
Smoke Dza, Curren$y - Kenny Lofton

Smoke Dza, Curren$y ft Styles P & Dave East - Inhale
“I got a Turkey Bag stashed in my Yeezy box/ emergency option if I need some pot” Tough competition but DZA probably had the best verse.
Griselda - Chef Dreads
“Ayo, hangin' out the Royce with the Russian (Doot, doot, doot, doot, doot, doot, doot, doot, doot, doot, doot, doot)/ everybody duckin', only five ****** got hit, fuck it (Ah)” One of the standout cuts on Griselda’s debut album, WWCD (What Would Chine Gun Do), that was entirely produced by Daringer and Beat Butcha, that also hosts features from Raekwon, 50 Cent, and Eminem.
Griselda - Freddie HotSpot
“They play sports, I race the Porsche through the streets with choppers (Woo)/ you know us, we like the Bucks on the Eastern Conference (Griselda)/ I'm plugged on both coasts, from Long Beach to Yonkers (Long Beach to Yonkers)/ so I'm somewhere in Brooklyn smokin' weed from Compton (Ayy)” More flame off the Griselda tape, Benny the Butcher is one of the best emcees from the entire East Coast.
Griselda ft 50 Cent - City On The Map
“I'm a A student, I mean I do my homework/ no ski mask, put in my own work/ I do, do my homework/ I do, I do put in my own work/ Valedictorian, bulletproof DeLorean (Yeah)/ my windows thick like twenty-four hour stores” 50 x Griselda!
Griselda ft Eminem - Bang (Remix)
“Tuck my fifth, don't hesitate to bust my shit/ I tell you ****** like Kyrie, "Suck my dick" (Haha)/ I don't trust a soul, I don't even trust my bitch (Uh-uh)/ before I fall in love, I'd rather cut my wrist (Ahh)” Eminem x Griselda!
CZARFACE - Me’s Company
“Born alone, die alone, dial tone/ the Expedition fits nine and I still ride alone” CZARFACE, as in 7L & Esoteric meets Inspectah Deck, just released their tenth album, The Odd Czar Against Us.
Paul Wall, Statik Selektah ft Benny the Butcher - OverCame
“I used to think dope was my calling, that's small business/ I'ma open up a grocery store and put jobs in it/ if y'all ****** wanna be popular, that's y'all business/ 'cause the feds putting all the big names in small prison” Benny the Butcher over Statik Selektah production off the Give Thanks mixtape.
Paul Wall, Statik Selektah ft Nems & Haile Supreme - Part of the Game
“I've slept in penthouses and in project staircases/ I took risks the average man wouldn't dare taken”Nems!
Curren$y ft Styles P - Another Score
“It’s audio dope, ***** it’s never cut/ measured up, put it for sale/ and then we settle up” For some reason on the Tidal app Sheek Louch is credited with this Styles P’s verse, and that’s just about as embarrassing as it gets.
ADD-2 - Young ****** (Maintain)
“Somewhere between the corner stores and churches, I found gangstas and God/ being guided by the sun, is it Jesus or Nas?” A highlight off ADD-2’s latest project, Jim Crow the Musical, shoutout the SouthSide of Chicago movement from the early to mid 2000s that’s still making their mark on the industry - in particular, Slot A’s production on Jamila Woods LEGACY album.
Mila J - All I Get For Christmas
“I could've wrote a Christmas list full of Christmas kiss but this Christmas is different/ I've never spent a Christmas with somebody like this/ I don't know what it is” The best kind of Christmas, Jhene Aiko’s sister got a nice lil holiday tune.
Mila J ft Jagged Edge - Season For Love
“Round and round we go again, here we go (Here we go)/ think I gotta wear a coat again, it's gettin' cold (Oh cold)/ we got reasons to get close again, you know (Yes we do)/ 'Cause it's the season for love” Jagged Edge makes a nice appearance on Mila J’s Holiday album.
Sisqo ft Bossman - Baby Girl
“I said baby girl, I thought you were the one for me” It’s good to hear Sisqo on his new Genesis EP, and I still need to catch Dru Hill’s episode on Unsung. (Side note: Dru Hill’sChristmasalbum last year was pretty good)
Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-5) (Live at Knebworth 1990 (2019 Mix))
“Remember when you were young/ you shone like the sun/ (shine on, you crazy diamond)/ now there's a look in your eyes/ like black holes in the sky” A Live version from 1990 of the Pink Floyd classic off the 1975 album, Wish You Were Here, and later re-released in 1992 on the box set compilation album, Shine On.
The Weeknd - Blinding Lights
“I said, ooh, I'm blinded by the lights/ no, I can't sleep until I feel your touch” The second single off Weeknd’s fourth studio album, After Hours, this is an undeniable tune that dominated the air waves in 2020.
